"The human element of the work sets my role apart from that of solicitors in many other industries and means that I find the job very rewarding"
Brady Pohle, Senior Trust Solicitor
Medical Staffing Manager, Neurosciences – Marcia Hylton
Marcia has worked at King’s for more than eight years
“A big part of my job is co-ordination and organisation to make sure that the Department of Neurosciences is fully resourced day to day. I ensure that any gaps in rotas and timetables are identified and filled appropriately; building a knowledge of and relationships with agencies is very important to getting this right.
"Much of my working day is spent trouble-shooting problems and queries. I get a great deal of satisfaction from resolving a broad range of issues and questions about pay, banding, working hours and recruitment, as well as ensuring that all new and temporary staff have an effective induction programme.
“Efficient information systems are vital to me being able to ensure effective staff resourcing. The skills that I have developed in this role mean that I have recently been able to take up the opportunity of a secondment to a more senior role to develop improved resourcing systems for the Trust.”
Senior Trust Solicitor – Brady Pohle
Brady has been with the Trust for more than six years
“My responsibility as Senior Trust Solicitor is to defend the Trust against clinical negligence claims, represent it at Coroner’s Inquests and to provide legal advice to the Trust and staff.
"Day to day my duties include liaising with various external bodies, including the NHS Litigation Authority, local coroners and external solicitors; advising staff on a wide range of issues, particularly health law; and occasionally advocacy in court.
“Working in legal services in a large, acute NHS teaching hospital is a unique and interesting experience because of the nature of the work and the impact that it can have on our patients and staff. The human element of the work sets my role apart from that of solicitors in many other industries and means that I find the job very rewarding.”
Publications Manager, Corporate Communications – Robert Marlow
Robert joined King’s in 2009
“My role as Publications Manager is to develop King’s publications, managing the process of providing patient information and ensuring the delivery of high-quality printed material for the Trust. I also assess how the King's brand is applied to printed material and advise staff on how to use it.
“My day-to-day duties include liaising with clinical divisions on copy for patient information, ensuring it is appropriate to target audiences and in keeping with NHS standards. When required, I design patient information such as the Annual Review, corporate publications and newsletters. I manage the delivery of print, dealing with external suppliers and linking information to the Trust intranet and external website where necessary. I also do some photography.
“Working in Corporate Communications in a large hospital is very interesting. Being part of a team where press and new media colleagues work on wide range of different projects every day is fascinating.
"I take great pride in my role as I know that patient information is an important source of information for the many members of the public who come to King’s."
