“Being a Security Shift Leader at King’s is an incredibly varied role and involves dealing with people from very different backgrounds, ranging from the Chief Executive to prison officers. This is one of the most challenging things about the job – but also the most rewarding.

“No two days are the same and day-to-day responsibilities range from providing a 24/7 security service in the Emergency Department to running the security control room, through to mediating sensitive situations which could involve patients, staff or members of the public. While my role does not require any formal qualifications, a Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence is useful.

"The diversity of patients and visitors at King’s means that an ability to cope and mediate in emotional situations, plus a passion for forging relationships with a range of people, are all crucial skills for members of the security team.”
